The State of AI in Media.
What AI is actually doing to the industry in 2026: where it saves time, where it breaks the distribution model, and which asset it makes more valuable.
Overview
This report reads together two stories that are almost never read at once: AI is solving cost problems in newsrooms while dismantling the channel that carried their work to readers. It covers twenty news organisations documented in 2026 and shows that almost all of those applications are assistance, with very few touching a process that, switched off, would show up in the accounts. It argues that the asset surviving the shift is verifiable provenance, and that anything published without it is provenance debt. It closes with sport as the test bed and four scenarios.
